An abortion is the procedure of ending a pregnancy or terminating so that there is no birth of a child. Aborting a child is dependent on how many weeks you have been pregnant: the pregnancy is terminated either by having medication or by having a surgical procedure.
Miscarriage and abortion are not the same. In the case of miscarriage, the loss begins without medical interference, although medical or surgical cure might be required after a miscarriage begin to help empty the womb.
Why an abortion might be required?
There are various causes why a woman may decide to have an abortion, including:- Personal circumstances – adding risk to the wellbeing of present children
- A health danger to the mother
- A high possibility the baby will have a severe abnormality – either genetic or physical
When may be the Abortion carried out?
UK law states that, an abortion generally carried out during the first 24 weeks of pregnancy as long as certain criteria are met. The Abortion Act 1967 deals with Scotland, England and Wales but not Northern Ireland, and states:- Abortions should be carried out in a hospital or a specialist licensed clinic
- Two doctors must be of the opinion that an abortion would lead to least damage to a woman's physical or mental health than ongoing with the pregnancy
There are also rarer situations when the law states an abortion might be carried out after 24 weeks. These include:
- If it's required to save the life of the woman's
- To prevent grave permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman
- If there is considerable danger that the child would be born with severe physical or mental disabilities
- Normally, an abortion must be carried out as fast as in the pregnancy as possible generally before 12 weeks and ideally before 9 weeks if possible.
Pregnancy can be Terminated by taking Abortion pills called as RU486 or Mifepristone Pills.
